GLS Football award HTFC for Vase Run

An unexpected but nevertheless welcome guest on Tuesday night was Victor Gladwish the CEO of Gladwish Land sales and GLS Football. The visit was arranged late on Tuesday afternoon in order to present The Team with another Trophy. This was awarded by GLS to the sponsored team who reached the furthest stage of the FA Vase in the 2006/7 Season. This proved to be Harpenden Town FC, and another trophy now takes pride of place in the growing trophy cabinet at The Town.

Chrissie Summerside presents Harpenden Town the Cup for the GLS team getting the furthest in the F.A. Vase. In 2006-2007 season.

We should like to thank Victor for the award and for his continuing support of the Club. For more information about Gladwish Landsales go to http://www.perfectplot.co.uk/GLSinfo.asp

Harpenden Town FC v St. Albans City Reserves

The highlight of the Harpenden Town pre-season schedule took place at Rothamsted Park last night in front of over one hundred plus spectators. Fans filled the centenary stand spilling onto the walkways creating a fantastic atmosphere around the ground for this highly anticipated local derby.

The opening exchanges were relatively even with both teams playing expansive, exciting and open football. However, it wasn't long before the young St Albans team took control with their talented youngsters looking confident on the ball playing a mixture of short passes and precise long balls for their quick forwards to latch on too.

With St Albans growing in confidence after their opener Harpenden were limited to rare forays into their opponents half, the young Saints kept the ball moving swiftly with what seemed like endless options on the ball and it was no surprise that after Tegana James was brought down on the edge of the area. They increased the lead to two goals with a cleverly taken free kick from Mark Betts catching the wall and keeper knapping by bending the ball into the far left of the goal.

After a couple of close offside decisions against St Albans, Harpenden started to string a few passes together creating half chances for forwards Rob Wise and Richard Taffe. This gave Harpenden the lift they were looking for and on 40 minutes Michael Ross struck a trademark free kick 40 yards onto the right foot of the on rushing Taffe who calmly slotted the ball past the Saints keeper. The lifeline was short lived though as a Harpenden midfielder was caught on the ball giving Morgan a clear run at goal for St Albans third and his first.

After the break Steve Cornwall rang the changes leaving only the goal keeper and centre half unchanged. The change worked as immediately the fresh players looking more solid and creating a number of openings for the Harpenden forwards. A midfield battle ensued as both teams fought for control of the game without ever really testing either keeper. However, Harpenden failed to capitalise on their improved possession and work rate with the final ball letting them down and the game fizzled out into a stalemate as both teams settled for an even second half.

Overall 3v1 was a fair reflection on an up and down game, St Albans very much dominating the opening encounters with the second half being a lot closer as Harpenden upped there work rate and became a lot harder to break down.
